Staying Awake in Class
I must not sleep; I must not start nodding;
I must not snooze if by means of prodding
My body. My eye! – I prodded too deep.
It hurts, but at least I won’t fall asleep.
I yawn like a lion and wring my ears;
The pain is intense to the point of tears,
But all that torment’s with good intention
Of sitting upright and paying attention.
