Cry Not
Cruelty of laughter, cruelty of fear,
Cruelty of pain that struck too near,
Cruelty of nature driven by lust:
From dust arisen and turned into dust.
Prevail thee not, or thou shall be prevailed,
For those set in stone shall never be hailed.
Sever thy surmise, look me in the eyes
And halt thy crying, let thy spirits rise.
‘Tis good to cry, but don’t cry off your health;
Crying leaves you poor, while laughter leaves wealth!
Besides, a smile fits an angel best –
An angel like thee – to that I attest!
